When we arrived and assessed the carpet we were able to lower the repair cost from $150 to only $75! He had some water in the basement and had pulled up the carpet to remove the pad and dry the carpet which is exactly what you want to do. During that process he broke 2 seams. Since the carpet was older and he had plans on replacing it anyways we decided to do 2 rough seams, replace the tack strips, stretch, and tuck the carpet back in.
